David Arthur Quates, 71, of Vale, North Carolina, passed away on September 19, 2026. 

He was born March 6, 1955, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Mary Carver Quates and Robert Lee Quates. David made his home in Vale, where he built a life centered around his family. David worked for Terra Design Inc. in underground construction, dedicating many years to his work and the people he worked alongside.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Lawrence Quates; and brother, Brent Quates. 

David is survived by his three children, Christy Quates, Jessica Quates, and Travis Quates and his wife, Brooke Quates, all of Vale; his seven granddaughters, Keely Boston and her husband, Syler Boston, of Vale, Mckensi Mathis, Allie Quates, Marlee Warlick, Jaylee Mathis, Braylee Quates, and Paizlee Fox.

Services to honor David will be held Thursday, September 24, 2026. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00–2:45 p.m. at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church in Vale, North Carolina, with the funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m.
